The upcoming blockchain-powered virtual world of The Sandbox has partnered with the crypto-friendly web browser Opera. The game will be featured in Opera’s dapp store, while the two companies will work together on a mobile-friendly option for The Sandbox. The team behind the virtual world announced the collaboration on Thursday.
“We want to enable a mobile-friendly option for the game in which our users could access their map, digital ASSETS and LANDS. This is something that we will try to develop with Opera.”Press release, February 27th 2020
Opera’s web browser has an integrated cryptocurrency wallet. In addition the browser also supports web 3.0 and decentralized applications, also known as dapps. They started doing this in December 2018, and have been updating and improving the user experience ever since.
Opera isn’t the first company that has a partnership with The Sandbox. The developers have already established lots of partnerships with software and gaming companies. These companies have all claimed virtual land within The Sandbox.
Second land sale sold out with a week
Within a week The Sandbox has sold 5 percent of its total land supply, which equals 6192 lands. This has generated roughly 185 thousand dollars in revenue. Studio boss Sebastien Borget reacted excited on the success of this second land sale. “A big thank you to everyone for your support. Let’s build together an amazing blockchain virtual world”, he posted on Twitter.
Investors and gamers who are interested in buying land can do so on OpenSea or wait for the next land sale to start in the coming months. The team behind The Sandbox originally had plans to do five land sales, which means the studio needs to schedule three more sales.
The Sandbox open beta
The Sandbox will be out this summer in open beta, together with the Game Maker and a major land sale. For now the developers focus on desktop and laptop users. However, this partnership with Opera could bring certain elements from The Sandbox to mobile.
In an exclusive interview with Play to Earn, the studio told about the future of The Sandbox. The community will govern the virtual world and players might be able to order actual pizza from within their virtual homes.
