The American telecom giant Verizon is moving into the blockchain space. They are looking for blockchain developers. Currently the company has five open positions, as it wants to develop a distributed network and a client-focused payment system. This comes from the job descriptions on their website.
Besides blockchain developers, the company is looking for project managers with experience in emerging technologies, software developers and developers with experience in big data. All of the job openings seem to have something to do with blockchain and related technology.
Verizon is another mobile phone company embracing blockchain technology. In May AT&T announced it would start accepting bitcoin as a payment option. In India there’s a spam filter being powered by blockchain technology, while Sirin Labs, HTC and Samsung have been embracing crypto in their phones.
However, not all cryptocurrency and blockchain related news involving the telecom world has been about rainbows and unicorns. Hackers have been able to gain access to SIM-cards, which allowed them to steal cryptocurrencies. The criminal was found, arrested and jailed for ten years. Also in other countries SIM-swapping has been linked with cryptocurrency hacks.
