Blockchain developer Block. One has paid $30 million for a domain name for its upcoming social media platform Voice. The company has claimed Voice.com and considers this ‘an ultra-premium domain’ that can help the company to achieve instant brand recognition, ignite its business and accelerate value creation.
The developments surrounding the URL were revealed in a filing from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on June 18th. The domain name purchase of ‘voice.com’ was enabled by web domain registrar GoDaddy and finalized on May 30th 2019. The website is live now.
Block. One announced its work on Voice earlier this month. This social media platform is build on the EOS blockchain, which the company considers to be beneficial as it provides more transparency compared with traditional social media platforms.
Yesterday Facebook unveiled plans for its own cryptocurrency called Libre. The social media behemoth is implementing its blockchain platform in Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram. Billions of people will get access to the stablecoin when it launches in 2020. The Financial Services Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives have requested Facebook to half development on the project until Congress and regulators have looked into it.
While Block. One has paid 30 million dollars for a domain name, and Facebook is using its billions to implement crypto into its platform. There are other social media platforms utilizing blockchain technology. BitTube has recently launched a closed beta of Bittubers.com, a platform that should combine elements from video websites like Youtube, combined with images and status updates like Facebook and Instagram.
At the center of BitTube is the concept of Airtime. A small percentage of the mined rewards of the Proof-of-Work coin is being used to reward content creators and content consumers. By installing the Airtime plugin into a web browser, consumers can earn TUBE for being active on the world wide web. At the same time, content creators are being paid for the amount of time consumers actively spend on their website.
