Nike is working on a crypto-powered online marketplace for crypto collectibles, crypto art and application tokens, as well as shoes and clothing. This comes from a trademark application that was filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office on April 19th. Nike is calling the project ‘Cryptokicks’.
The document also mentions plans for ‘providing a digital currency or digital token for use by members of an online community’ and enabling transactions to be completed using ‘unconventional currency systems’.
Cryptokicks should also provide online blogs about crypto collectibles, offer online games such as scavenger hunts, treasure hunts and obstacle courses. Which makes it look like Cryptokicks will be an entertainment platform and a cryptocurrency all-in-one.
Competitors now have 30 days to object to the filing. Nike has been very aggressive with its mobile app and social media strategy. According to the brand itself, it’s digital commerce business is now worth over 2 billion dollars.
