Cyber security guru and crypto investor John McAfee has shown a Skycoin tattoo to his 800 thousand Twitter followers, and the price of SKY jumped 15%. It peaked at $3.25, after which the price fell down again towards a range just below 3 dollars. That’s still ten percent up from the time before the tattoo reveal.
Skycoin launched in the Spring of 2017 and had its peak in January when it was valued 47 dollars. In June the coin lost 75% of its value and moved back to 6 dollars, after which the price slowly declined with the rest of the market.
This projects wants to offer an alternative to Ethereum and Bitcoin, without the centralized power of mining pools. It developed its own algorithm, mining hardware and entire platform. Skycoin is build with a focus on privacy, sustainability, zero fees, security and scalability.
Binance is the biggest exchange that currently trades Skycoin. It does 80 percent of all the trading. Other exchange that offer Skycoin are Cryptopia, ChaoEx and C2CX.
It’s definitely not the first time McAfee promoted a coin on his Twitter account. In November and December 2017 his tweets became notorious for the ability to pump a coin in value.
