Ethereum and ERC20 token wallet Metamask is coming to mobile devices. The team behind the wallet announced this during DevCon4. Metamask will probably only be available on smartphones that support trusted execution environment (TEE). Currently Metamask is best known as a browser extension on desktop computers.
TEE is a location on your phone that’s sealed from the outside. Hackers will not have the option to access that part of your phone from the outside. It would be the location where your private keys are being saved.
The mobile version of Metamask will be more than just a wallet. It will also allow users to search for dApps in an online store, and run these dApps as well within the Metamask environment. Among the available apps is the popular collectible card game Cryptokitties. Because these dApps are connected through Metamask, information can be processed seamlessly to and from the Ethereum mainnet.
There’s no release date yet. It’s very likely Metamask is coming to Android devices. Obviously iOS should be on the road map as well.
