On the 31st of October 2008 a person or group, (nick)named Satoshi Nakamoto, published the whitepaper for Bitcoin. The article is called Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System. It’s nine pages that would revolutionize the internet and the finance world.
We’ve seen exchanges being hacked. Pizzas have been bought using bitcoin and at one point Bitcoin became so popular that the network couldn’t handle the transactions. The price for the transactions went up, which ultimately resulted in the development of the Lightning Network.
The Bitcoin blockchain has been forked on a couple of occasions. Some of these projects were clearly scams, others were more successful. Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold are the ones best known and most accepted within the crypto community.
Over the past ten years bitcoin grew up, but it’s still too early to call it mature. The coin hit its all time high on December 17th 2017 when it was worth $19.783,21. Since then the coin last almost seventy percent of its value.
With much more adoption happening around the world in commerce, the financial sector, culturally and politically, we are set to enjoy bitcoin and the crypto community for at least another ten years!
