A Cryptokitties cat called Dragon was sold for 600 ETH, which roughly calculates to 172.625 USD when it was sold. The new owner goes by the nickname of rabono, and he has put his newly acquired kitten up for sale immediately… for the same price.
The previous record was set by a kitten called ‘Founder Cat #18’, which was sold for 253 ETH back in July 2017. Cryptokitties is a game where people can obtain kittens, create new kittens when they own two compatible adult cats, and each of the kittens is unique. In total over 334 thousand kittens have been sold, with an average price of just over 60 dollars per virtual cat. When it comes to ETH, the game is build on the Ethereum network, there has been 47.732 ETH used in transactions so far, with a total value of over 25 million USD.
Just compare the price of Dragon, with the Black Lotus card from Magic The Gathering. This super rare card sold for 27 thousand dollars in eBay a few years ago. MtG is already many years on the market, while Cryptokitties is brand new. Even though Dragon is one of a kind, the amount of value people attach to these cats is amazing. And that only speaks for the true potential of blockchain technology.
